Easter Extravaganza

March 10, 2013

Once again I am honored to be a part of Hani’s Easter Extravaganza project especially alongside of such incredibly, talented women and men. When Hani approached me with the challenge of course I was knee-deep in another holiday and couldn’t even think about Easter. But one day I stumbled upon some Dutch folkart on Pinterst – that always gets me inspired – and I saw an incredible design and thought it would be great on an EGG !!!! I wanted to do more designs but alas, ran out of time as usual. So many ideas, so little time. I am so glad the Egg matched the idea I had in my head as that doesn’t always come together for me. I hope you enjoy my egg and the rest of the incredible projects crafts and edibles that were submitted to Hani. They will literally blow you away!!! Happy Almost Easter!!!!

Home for the Holidays

December 17, 2012

I have always wanted to make a gingerbread house -from scratch that is – with my two boys. I have good intentions of doing just that and then every year so far, time gets away from me. We managed to make one last year that was the kind that comes from a box. Definitely easy and still fun. I like to envision the beautiful snowy cottage we will make, and of course, knowing my two crazy boys, it will be bogged down with tons of candy, so much so that it will probably collapse from the weight. I was asked by Oh Sugar Events! to participate in a challenge of using a large gingerbread house cookie cutter and decorating it in the style I thought represented a home that was the kind of home you would come back to for the holidays. Well of course my vision was a snowy, quaint, decorative – with a touch of rustic -Swiss type chalet. Ironically, I did not use gingerbread for the cookie, and chose a sturdier sugar cookie dough. It was difficult to photograph my cookie because of the weight of the cookie when I stood it up. I started experiencing cracking in the icing and got nervous and tried to take as many pictures as I could without it cracking further. But when I went back in the light of day to photograph it once more, I was getting more and more cracks. I hope the photos do the cookie justice!!! I hope you enjoy my house which was inspired by @Sassy Beautimus’s beautiful and real life gingerbread houses. She is on flickr. Thanks again and enjoy the other houses that were part of the project!!!

I was so inspired by Sugarbelle’s Delft Easter Egg tutorial that I knew just what I wanted to do for my grandmother’s 97th Birthday party: a Delft collection complete with windmills.
